Man City could allow midfielder James McAtee to leave the club next summer, sources have told Football Insider.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (18 November) that City are reluctant to let West Ham target McAtee, 22, leave the club in January.

Pep Guardiola's side have struggled with injuries and sources say the English champions are reluctant to further weaken their squad as they chase a fifth consecutive Premier League title.

McAtee has featured sparingly this term - mostly playing in domestic cups and European competition.

However, it is believed the player is currently happy with his role at the Etihad Stadium and club chiefs are happy with his contribution.

City could soften their stance on allowing McAtee to leave next summer when they have a better opportunity to dip into the transfer market for reinforcements.

He will have just one year left to run on his deal in June 2025 after coming through the ranks at the club.

West Ham and Fulham have been linked with a potential swoop for the 22-year-old as they look to bolster their midfield ranks.

The attacking midfielder has made 15 appearances for England's Under-21 side and has captained the side in the last two games after Taylor Harwood-Bellis' senior call-up.

Manchester City

McAtee has made six senior appearances for Guardiola’s City side this term, scoring once.

The bulk of his first-team experience came with Sheffield United during loan spells in the 2022-23 and 2023-24 campaigns.
