Man City could rejoin the European Super League project as early as next season if their legal battle against the Premier League fails, sources have told Football Insider.

The English champions have pursued legal action against the Premier League regarding the associated party transaction (ATP) rules in place.

According to The Times, City are seeking to abolish the ATP regulations after deeming them “unlawful”.

The case is on track to be settled after a two-week private arbitration hearing starting on Monday (10 June).

City’s relationship with the Premier League has already been strained by their 115 charges - which are due to be heard in November across a six-week period.

Man City could return to breakaway Super League in 2024-25

The Daily Mail report that City’s relationship with the Premier League will be at an “all-time low” if their lawsuit is unsuccessful and they could be forced to re-join the Super League proposal.

Sources have told Football Insider that City could now rejoin the breakaway project as early as the 2024-25 campaign.

City expect an outcome to their legal battle before the start of the upcoming Premier League season.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta - one of the leading figures in the Super League project - claimed the breakaway competition could begin in the 2024-25 season.
