Man City could seal player-plus-cash Jude Bellingham move - 'there's a deal to be done', says pundit

Noel Whelan has claimed Man City star Ilkay Gundogan could return to Borussia Dortmund as part of a deal for England youngster Jude Bellingham.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted other Premier League sides “can’t compete” with the Citizens for the 19-year-old.

According to the Daily Mail (9 November), Man City are leading the race for Borussia Dortmund midfield star Bellingham after holding initial talks with the German giants.

The report claims relations between the two sides are strong after the transfer of red-hot striker Erling Haaland during the summer window.

On 31 October, sources told Football Insider that City are worried former Dortmund midfielder Gundogan will snub their contract offer and leave at the end of the season – amid links to Atletico Madrid and Juventus.

Whelan suggested the Germany international could return to his old side as a sweetener in a potential deal for Bellingham.

He told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “There could be a swap with Gundogan.

“We know he could want to leave England – and it’s not exactly a bad club to go back to, is it?

“There could be a deal to be done with that player plus some cash.

“You can’t really compete with Man City.

“When Jude Bellingham is looking at where Man City are in the league, the style of play – he suits them perfectly.

“If he was making the choice right now, I think he’d be swayed to go to City.

“They’re the more consistent side, and they’ll be in the most finals – whether that’s domestic football or in the Champions League.”
