Paul Robinson has backed Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell to join Man City in the summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one said the 26-year-old would be the "perfect" replacement for Joao Cancelo.

Cancelo joined Bayern Munich on loan for the remainder of the season on 31 January.

The Bundesliga champions have the option to make the move permanent in the summer.

According to the Daily Mail's Mike Keegan (30 January), Man City have a long-standing interested in Ben Chilwell and could try to sign him this summer.

When asked by Football Insider if Chilwell would be a welcome addition at the Etihad, Robinson said: "He has not had a good time at Chelsea.

"He has had a lot of injuries. I wonder with Graham Potter in charge if he will get the game time that he wants.

"He is a player who would flourish under Guardiola. He'd be perfect.

"If there is anywhere that City need to strengthen it is left-back. They need to replace Cancelo in the summer. I'm sure it's the top priority.

"Chilwell is a deal that I could see happening. There is a lot of change happening at Chelsea and they might just let Chilwell go.

"That deal cannot happen until the end of the season though so City are going to have to make do with what they have got."
