Manchester City could be blocking Savinho’s move to Tottenham because they don’t want to do business with Daniel Levy.

Former Spurs scout Mick Brown told Football Insider Savinho wants to join Tottenham after spending just one season at the Etihad Stadium.

However, Man City have reportedly decided Savinho will stay at the club despite strong interest from Tottenham

The 21-year-old joined Pep Guardiola’s side in a £30.8million deal from French club Troyes last summer.

Savinho, who has missed Man City’s opening two games of the campaign, registered three goals and 13 assists in 48 appearances last season.

Savinho has made 'surprising' Man City exit decision

This article contains exclusive comment from Stefan Borson, a former financial adviser to Man City.

Tottenham are still pushing to sign Savinho despite Man City’s efforts to keep hold of him ahead of the transfer deadline on 1 September.

Levy is aware Thomas Frank will need a larger squad to compete with the demands of the Champions League this season.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson said: “I think City have always got a price.

“I believe Savinho's agent is in Manchester, which suggests that he's working quite hard to get the deal done. Obviously, he'll be well incentivised to get the deal done.

“The player still seems keen, which is slightly surprising.

“And if it's true, there's somebody at City who would rather not deal with Daniel Levy, which is not a massive surprise.

“I don't think relations between the clubs are particularly good.

“They've not had a good experience in terms of agreeing transfers.

“Then on top of that, there's all the regulatory stuff that I think they come out from diametrically opposed sides, be that APT or the PSR stuff.

“I think it's safe to say they're not friends, and I think City would be reluctant to deal with Spurs unless the price is what they want.”

Man City work on expensive transfer deals

In terms of other transfer activity, Football Insider revealed on 17 August Xavi Simons and Rodrygo are on Man City’s radar

However, both would be expensive deals to pull off, while the focus is currently on trimming the squad at the Etihad Stadium.

It is believed multiple fringe players could leave Man City before the transfer window closes.
