Man City are readying a concrete move for Southampton star Danny Ings as he stalls on a new contract, Football Insider understands.
The Premier League leaders are in the market for new strikers this summer as they look to replace club legend Sergio Aguero.
A City source has told Football Insider that Ings is on their target list and the club will be in contact over a potential deal.
The striker, 28, has been offered a lucrative new contract by the Saints but has yet to put pen to paper amid a continued clamour for his services.
The source explained that City’s interest is “concrete” and they are planning a move for the forward in the coming weeks.
That would make Saints fans nervous given the wealth and glamour of Pep Guardiola’s side.
Ings is regarded by the City manager as an expert penalty box operator capable of finishing off the many chances his side create.
City announced on Monday that Aguero will leave when his contract expires at the end of the season.
As revealed by Football Insider on Tuesday, Barcelona are in the driving seat to sign the Argentina international as countryman Lionel Messi spearheads their pursuit.
Southampton are braced for Ings offers as he enters the last 12 months of his contract in the summer.
He has missed the Saints’ last two matches due to injury but has nine goals and three assists from 25 games this season. In total, Ings has 42 goals from 92 Southampton games.
