Liverpool land seven-figure transfer windfall after terms agreed with Man City, the real winners
By Richard Parks
Manchester City will feel they have had the better of the £49million deal that took Raheem Sterling from Liverpool in the summer of 2015. And they would be right.
The Times claim Liverpool are in line to receive a £1million windfall due to a clause they inserted into Sterling’s transfer to City three years ago.
Liverpool are guaranteed the payment after Sterling became a Premier League winner for the first time.
It is a bonus that City’s beancounters will be more than happy to pay after Pep Guardiola’s side were crowned Premier League champions on Sunday evening in the wake of Manchester United’s defeat to West Brom.
Liverpool secured a very decent deal for themselves when they offloaded Sterling, but City are not looking so daft for paying up to £49million for him now.

The wide forward has been outstanding for Guardiola’s swashbucklers this season in what has comfortably been the most productive campaign of a career that has threatened to go to a new level without quite doing so for a number of years.
The attacking midfielder has scored 22 goals and supplied 14 assists in 42 appearances in all competitions, with 17 of his goals coming in the Premier League.
His numbers were not too shabby last season – 10 goals and 21 assists from 47 matches – but now Sterling is a bona fide Premier League matchwinner who has more good days than bad.
He will always be a threat with his electric pace and sensational nose for finding space in and behind organised defences.
The Englishman’s growing goal threat marks him out as a key man for club and country, and England will be glad to have such a nimble and effective player at this summer’s World Cup.
Aged 23, Sterling is still young enough to improve, especially under such a smart coach as Guardiola.
City are lucky to have him, and will be laughing all the way to the bank as they prepare to hand over new pay-out to Liverpool.
In other Liverpool news, the club are to table a mega goal machine offer, he will certainly be at Anfield in 18/19.
