Man City have 'opened the door' for Celtic to sign Itakura after newspaper update - pundit
Alex McLeish is backing Ange Postecoglou to use his “handy” links to City Football Group to bring new talent to Celtic.
The former Scotland boss, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, was reacting as a report named a potential target for the new Hoops boss.
On 28th June, The Daily Record claimed Manchester City centre-back Ko Itakura is high on a list of Postecoglou’s targets.
Itakura, a five-time Japan international, spent the last 18 months on loan at FC Groningen and is in the final two years of his City deal.
Postecoglou’s previous side, Yokohama F. Marinos, are part of the multi-club City Football Group.
When asked how important Postecoglou’s City contacts could be for Celtic, McLeish told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, “It can be very handy indeed.

“If you have that contact then City have opened the door for that. They have had players before from City.
“It’s brilliant. I keep stressing the quality factor and Celtic will have to show their fans ‘we’ve got a cracker here’.
“That’s the test. The most important thing is if the player will fit the bill and can try to help and get Rangers pegged back immediately.
“It’s not easy for Postecoglou to come in and restructure a whole squad, it’s a massive task.”
Postecoglou is finally getting to work as Celtic boss after having to quarantine upon his arrival in the UK.
His first test as Hoops boss is a Champions League qualifying tie against FC Midtjylland on 20th July.
