Man City have set their sights on signing a new midfielder in the January transfer window following the completion of two incoming deals.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that concerns about their current midfield options have forced the club's hand.

Meanwhile, reports have claimed they have had a bid accepter for 20-year-old Lens centre-back Abdukodir Khusanov to make the move to the Etihad.

With the club now confident they will wrap up two of their primary targets in the January window, they will now turn their attention to the midfield.

Brown explained that "major concerns" about Kevin de Bruyne's fitness, Ilkay Gundogan's performances, and Rodri's injury, mean City must move quickly to bring in a new option.

Now, the former scout who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, has insisted the club are ready to act on their plans to sign a new midfielder in the coming weeks.

"They've had quite a few issues to resolve," he told Football Insider.

"Rodri's going to be out for a while still, De Bruyne is struggling to reach full fitness and show his previous form, so those two alone are major, major issues.

"Then you've got Gundogan, who is also a concern because he hasn't shown the same levels as we'd seen previously since he came back from Barcelona.

"And a big part of that problem is that all of those players are ageing.

"So a new midfielder, from what I hear, will be their next priority this month.

"They've moved quickly to bring in a new centre-back and it looks like a new forward, and now their focus will shift to the midfield."
