Kieran Maguire salutes 'world-beating' Man City as Bayern Munich deal agreed

Man City have a “world-beating” commercial department and deserve credit for their ingenuity when striking new business deals.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the 2021-22 Premier League champions’ latest commercial deal.

City announced on Wednesday (27 July) that they have teamed up with OTT media firm Recast who have commissioned a documentary about their title triumph last term.

The rights to stream the Cityzens’ 1-0 pre-season victory over Bayern Munich last Sunday (24 July) were also included in the deal.

The arrangement was struck on a micro-payment basis, which means City will be paid for every individual view their programmes amass on the Recast channel.

Maguire hailed the structure of the new deal.

“If City are not involved in any upfront costs when it comes to production for the documentary, that works for them,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“I think that was the case for the Sunderland and Tottenham documentaries. But it’s a low-risk deal either way.

“While I don’t think they are going to make millions through this, it is a case of every little helps as far as City are concerned.

“They do have world-beating people working in this department.”

City earned £297million in media income in 2020-21, the last financial year on record.

That figure is expected to rise again when they release their accounts for 2021-22.
