Man City are set to replace Rodri with two stars after his devastating knee injury, sources have told Football Insider.

The 28-year-old is set to miss the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign after he suffered an anterior cruciate ligament tear during their 2-2 draw against Arsenal.

Pep Guardiola is expected to use Rico Lewis and Matheus Nunes in central midfield to replace the Spain international throughout the season.

Ilkay Gundogan’s return is being seen as a boost, with the Premier League giants having re-signed the Germany international this summer.

Man City are also expected to evaluate the transfer market during the upcoming January window to see if there are any possible options to bolster Guardiola’s options.

Man City will need to try and replace Rodri

Losing Rodri will be a significant blow for Man City as the club have only lost 2% of their games with him in the team since the start of the 2023-24 campaign.

That is compared to the club having a 34% loss rate when the Spaniard isn’t in the team, which will be the case for the rest of this season.

Rodri only played 21 minutes against Arsenal before being replaced by Mateo Kovacic after suffering the serious knee injury.

One player that the Premier League giants will not be using to fill this gap is Kalvin Phillips, who is currently on loan at Ipswich Town.
