Alan Hutton has hailed the Man City players' response to the defeat to Man United on 14 January.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and Aston Villa defender said it was good for players to air their grievances in the dressing room after the defeat but said those situations can "explode quickly".

As relayed by The Athletic (22 January), following the 2-1 defeat to United, the City players took turns to air grievances and give their views on where things were going wrong.

Sources close to the squad said the mood around the squad changed following the conversation.

Hutton suggested players and staff need to be careful that these situations do not get out of hand.

"I do not think it is a bad thing as long as it does not go over the line," he told Football Insider.

"Football is an emotional sport and when you start pointing the finger at people then it can explode quickly.

"If the players are in the changing room, talking things through, what is going wrong, how they need to fix it, I do not see that being a problem.

"I have been in plenty of dressing rooms where that has happened, the manager is not even involved it is just between the players to go and sort it out.

"I think it brings you closer, as long as it is done in the right way it can come out and be a good thing."
