Manchester City are unlikely to be able to sell Jack Grealish in the January transfer window due to his hefty wage demands.

That is the view of former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider there are not many clubs in world football who could afford the England international’s £300,000-a-week wages.

Grealish joined Man City from Aston Villa on a six-year deal in 2021 for a then-British record £100million fee.

But the 29-year-old has struggled to make an impact this season, having registered just two assists in 19 appearances in all competitions.

The Daily Mail reported on 30 December Tottenham and Newcastle United are monitoring the winger’s situation at the Etihad.

But Borson insisted it’s a “very difficult deal” for anyone to do at this moment in time.

“There are two elements to the Grealish situation,” Borson told Football Insider.

“The first one is there are not many teams in the world that can afford a wage of £300,000-350,000 a week, which is what Grealish is probably on all in.

“That limits the options and then, on top of that, City paid £100million for him four years ago.

“City are probably going to be reluctant to take an actual loss on the deal, so you are talking about whether you can get someone to buy him for around £30million.

“It would be neutral in terms of your PNL and then you are just trying to save the wages.

“But it’s hard to believe at his age, with his injury record and level of performance over the last two years that somebody would pay £30million and £300,000 a week.

“I think it’s going to be a very difficult deal to do until he’s out of contract at City.”
