Man United and Newcastle United are racing to sign Southampton star Tyler Dibling, sources have told Football Insider.

The 18-year-old has starred for the Saints despite their struggles so far this season, as they sit bottom of the league, having won just one game from a possible 16 so far.

Dibling, however, has caught they eye with his displays and is now said to be on the radar of a number of top sides who are weighing up a move.

Newcastle are keeping tabs on his progress as a potential option for their right-wing position, which they are set to prioritise ahead of the January transfer window.

Following the success of deals for the likes of Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall, the Magpies are keen to give young English talents a chance to shine under Eddie Howe.

However, any deal is thought to be more likely to take place in the summer as Southampton are not willing to see a key player leave mid-way through the season.

Man United and Newcastle plot moves to sign Tyler Dibling

Recently-sacked Saints boss Russell Martin was bullish in his insistence that the club would demand a high price for Dibling amid United's interest.

As per Sky Sports, the manager laughed off suggestions of a £21million fee, stating: "I'm not sure you'll get his left foot for that."

However, he went on to explain that talks over a potential new contract have delayed as a result of the player's agent and his demands.

As a result, there is a growing feeling that a deal can be agreed as Dibling would be equally keen on the step up to either Man United or Newcastle.

Sources also say that Southampton could be forced to cash in on the winger if they are relegated from the Premier League come May in an attempt to balance the books.

Now, Newcastle have also entered the race, with no shortage of interest in signing Dibling in a saga which looks set to drag on until the summer.
