Man United are 'a shambles' after 'crazy' Rangnick reveal from Ornstein - pundit
Kevin Phillips is baffled by the Man United board’s decision to appoint an interim manager until the end of the season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the 2000 European Golden Shoe winner said “it’s a crazy” path to take when the squad is in “a shambles”.
As revealed by The Athletic‘s David Ornstein (25th November), Ralf Rangnick has reached an agreement to become the Red Devils’ interim manager.
The 63-year-old will join a six-month deal until the end of May and then move into a two year consultancy role.
Phillips believes six months is not enough time to turnaround a group of players who “are not listening”.
“I just do not understand it,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“They are just bringing in a name.
“Rangnick will come in, and try to get his philosophy and style across to the players but it will require time.
“United are a shambles right now. Players are doing what they want by the sound of it. They are not listening. It sounds like it’s been a holiday camp.
“The manager will need to sort that out to start with, rather than get his philosophy and style across to the players. It takes time and before you know it we’ll be in March and the season will nearly be over.
“For me, it is a crazy decision to appoint an interim. They should have gone all out to get their main man now. Pay the compensation to get whoever it is so they can get started now.
“That way you can address who needs to go and who needs to stay as soon as possible.”
