Manchester United are scouting Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn ahead of the January window, according to Noel Whelan.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider editor Wayne Veysey, the ex-Leeds United and Coventry City striker claimed he’s been told of interest from the Premier League giants in the Scotland international.
United were linked with McGinn in the summer and Whelan believes they are keeping close tabs on him in the first half of the campaign.
McGinn has carried his excellent form in Villa’s promotion-winning campaign into the Premier League, scoring two goals from central midfield from six matches so far.
“He’s Villa’s one shining light,” Whelan told Football Insider. “When you watch Villa, McGinn is the best player every game. He is involved in everything and is a fantastic player.
“That is why Man United are looking at him for January. That’s what I’ve been told. They’re scouting him. I think Man United could do with someone like McGinn. He would be far better for them than someone like Juan Mata.”
McGinn was signed by Villa from Hibernian for a fee of around £3million in the summer of 2018.
In other Aston Villa news, it can be REVEALED that Dean Smith has given the green light for the club to sell one of his signings.
