Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has suggested Man United will be unable to match Tottenham's "incredible" stadium development.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed there is "no point" in copying Spurs' plans as sports like NFL will not come to the north-west.

Wyness already told Football Insider last month (29 March) that Man United are gearing up to build a new stadium next to the existing Old Trafford site.

Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has spoken out about a “once-in-a-century opportunity” to give the club a stadium comparable to the Santiago Bernabeu – which has recently undergone a revamp.

Tottenham opened their new stadium in April 2019 and have hosted NFL, rugby, boxing, go-karting and music events since then.

Spurs posted a club-record matchday income of £117million last term.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “There’s no doubt that Tottenham's stadium is a fantastic asset.

“It was built as a revenue generator. Allowing the NFL to play there, for example, takes a lot of planning.

“Everton’s stadium will probably the best for football in England - but Spurs’ ground is truly a multi-sports stadium.

“There’s no doubt that the vision was incredible.

“I don’t know if every club can build a stadium like that, because sports like the NFL probably wouldn’t go to the north-west or the Midlands.

“There’s no point putting that expense and structure in place.

“But other sports like boxing and concerts have to be the focus for clubs looking to build new grounds.”
