Manchester United will hold talks today over a deal to sign Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee, sources have told Football Insider

United have shortlisted the Dutchman as a potential new attacking option this summer and have been in contact with his representatives.

The Premier League giants are discussing terms with the 23-year-old’s camp and weighing up whether to activate his £33.8million release clause.

United are looking to bolster their forward options with a box-office signing after confirming Erik ten Hag will be their manager next season following the conclusion of their end-of-season review.

Old Trafford chiefs are now set to continue talks over a deal for Zirkzee, whose contract with Bologna is due to expire in 2026.

Man United could trigger Joshua Zirkzee release clause

Zirkzee was previously earmarked as an exciting talent for the future after making his Bayern Munich debut aged 18 against Tottenham five years ago.

But the forward failed to kick on with the Bundesliga giants after making just 17 appearances for the senior side, scoring four goals and laying on one assist.

Following a fruitful loan spell with Belgian club Anderlecht, the Dutchman joined Bologna for £7.2million in 2022.

Zirkzee scored 12 goals and laid on seven assists for the Italian side last season, helping them secure a place in the Champions League.

That has prompted Man United to explore a deal to sign the striker this summer, with talks scheduled for today as they decide whether to trigger his release clause.

There are expected to be several changes at Old Trafford this summer after reports suggested the club are willing to sell the majority of their first-team players.
