Panathinaikos have agreed a deal in principle for the permanent signing of Man United midfielder Facundo Pellistri, sources have told Football Insider.

The fee is in the region of £5m and the 22-year-old Uruguyan is set to be given the green light to travel to Greece for a medical.

Man United are looking to ship multiple players out of the club before the end of the transfer window with Denmark international Christian Eriksen also deemed surplus to requirements.

Football Insider revealed (August 20) that the club have set an asking price of £5 million for the 32-year-old who has a year left on his contract.

Facundo Pellistri set to leave Man United for Panathinaikos

Unable to secure a spot in the first-team after his move in 2020, Pellistri was sent on loan to Spanish club Deportivo Alaves, where he made 35 appearances but failed to score a single goal.

Pellistri was eventually given an opportunity in Erik ten Hag's side between July 2022 and January 2024 but again failed to score in 24 appearances.

After spending the back end of last season on loan at Granada, where he did manage to score twice in 15 games, Man United have finally decided to let him leave permanently.

The Premier League club will seek to reinvest the funds raised from the sale of Pellistri as they aim to qualify for Champions League football next season.
