Man United 'desperate' as journalist '90 per cent' sure on Frenkie de Jong transfer - pundit
Man United are “desperate” to sign Frenkie de Jong and will “hold out” for the player, according to Alan Hutton.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and Rangers defender claimed the 25-year-old is a “top target” for the Red Devils.
Spanish journalist Jose Alvarez Haya, as quoted by the Express (22 June), claimed Man United are “90% likely” to sign De Jong this summer.
The midfielder is under contract with Barcelona until the end of June 2026.
He joined the La Liga side from Ajax in 2019 after making his way through the youth teams.
When asked if Manchester United should walk away from the deal, Hutton told Football Insider, “It really depends how desperate they are for that player.

“If he’s a top target, and you’d like to think that he is because that’s who they went for first, they will be willing to hold out.
“Ultimately, Ten Hag will want the players in as early as possible so he can work with them from day one through preseason to get his philosophy across, his play and how he wants to play and develop the team.
“He doesn’t want to be adding in as the season starts.
“So of course they’ll give him time as he’s probably the top target.
“Of course a few weeks down the line there will come a time where they have to move elsewhere and it’s a case of if the player’s desperate to come, does he put in a transfer request or how does he move forward.
“But they will give him enough time to get it over the line and then they’ll move on.”
