Man United handed Christian Eriksen a staggering deal worth £200,000-a-week as well as a £12million signing-on fee, sources have told Football Insider.

The Premier League giants made the Denmark international, 30, their second summer signing when he joined on a free transfer from Brentford.

But the terms agreed by United were generous ones and enough to fend off the interest of rivals, who included former club Tottenham as well as 2021-22 employers Brentford.

The two London clubs were both keen to sign Eriksen on a long-term contract and made offers to the player when his six-month Bees deal expired.

But they could not match the terms of United, who are paying the attacking midfielder £43m across the three years of his agreement.

That includes the signing-on fee as well as a salary worth more than £10m-a-year.

Spurs pulled out of the race for Eriksen as they were unwilling to go as far as United to get the deal over the line.

It was the same for Brentford, who had offered to make the playmaker the best-paid player in the club's history.

Eriksen has made an incredible recovery since having a cardiac arrest on the pitch during a Euro 2020 match in June last year.

He was forced to leave Inter Milan after having a defibrillator – which are not allowed in Italy – fitted in the weeks after his collapse.

Since joining United he has started all five of their Premier League matches, and played in central midfield in Thursday's 1-0 win over Leicester City.
