Man United fans angered by 'surprising' Woodward reveal - Phillips

Man United fans will be left fuming if Ed Woodward is handed a consultancy role at the club, according to Kevin Phillips.

The 2000 European Golden Shoe winner, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, is “surprised” to hear the Glazers are considering the 50-year-old for such a position given his hand in the European Super League debacle.

According to the Daily Mail (November 8th), the Red Devils are in talks with Woodward over a consultancy role at Old Trafford.

It comes as the Man United chief executive prepares to leave his current position at the club next month.

A consultancy role would see Woodward maintain some level of power and influence in Manchester.

Woodward’s appointment would prove highly controversial given his central role in the planned European Super League earlier this year.

When for his assessment of the news, Phillips told Football Insider: “That won’t go down well with the fans.

“I’m surprised by the news, to be honest with you. You’d think the Glazers know the backlash that is going to come with it.

“This is Manchester United though so you would presume that they have clearly thought about it.

“It is going to be really interesting to see how the fans react to it if it is confirmed.

“It is not too long ago that we have the European Super League issue and Ed Woodward was heavily involved. I’m sure the fans won’t have forgotten that.”
