Man United fans have torn into Matthijs de Ligt after his defensive performance during the Premier League clash with Liverpool at Anfield.

Ruben Amorim's side fought back to secure an impressive 2-2 draw at Anfield after Lisandro Martinez's goal was met by strikes from Cody Gakpo and Mohamed Salah, but Amad Diallo's 80th minute strike saw the points shared.

It was De Ligt who was largely at fault for both of Liverpool's goals, having been left for dead by Gakpo seconds before his goal, before giving away the penalty for Salah to tuck home.

The 25-year-old has struggled to impress fans at Old Trafford so far this season due to a number of inconsistent performances, with this the latest in a long line.

Erik ten Hag's insistence on bringing his former players to the club had led to plenty of anger from the supporters as many of his signings failed to gel.

De Ligt has established himself as one of Amorim's first-choice centre-backs since the change of manager, but his performances remain a point of contention.

De Ligt had previously struggled to impress at both Juventus and Bayern Munich before his move to Old Trafford, and is failing to match his high reputation again.

A 2-2 draw at Anfield is a fantastic result of Amroim's side given their recent form, but it could have been even more but for the centre-back's errors.

As a result, travelling United fans have taken to social media en masse as they labelled him "embarrassing" and "a disgrace", blaming him for their failure to win.
