Kieran Maguire: Man United have sealed seven 'very smart' new hires

Man United have just appointed seven “very smart” new members to their fan advisory board.

So says finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about sweeping changes at the executive level at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils announced the makeup of its first official fan-led committee on Wednesday (1 December).

The panel will be co-chaired by Cristopher Saad, a renowned barrister and boyhood United fan, as well as United director Richard Arnold.

Two more appointees are high-ranking members of the United Fan’ Forum, alongside two from the Manchester United Supporters Trust.

Maguire claims that, while they will not have significant powers, the latest boardroom development should be welcomed.

“There’s no downside, that is unless it is used by the club as a box-ticking exercise,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.

“But MUST and the wider fan community have some very smart people involved. That has to be welcomed.

“Those elements of the United fanbase aren’t just doing it for the opportunity to have tea and biscuits in the boardroom at Old Trafford.

“The gap between the Glazers and the fanbase has never been bigger. If this helps to narrow the gap then it is definitely a positive.

“It won’t stop all of the fan complaints. The actual element in terms of decision making is going to be marginal, but marginal is better than zero.”

United are in a transition period following the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and appointment of elite German coach Ralf Rangnick.

Rangnick will take the wheel for the first time in tomorrow’s (5 December) clash against Crystal Palace.
