‘Man United have serious concerns about Lisandro Martinez’ as summer replacement mooted
Lisandro Martinez has sparked “serious concerns” about his availability at Manchester United after picking up another red card against Leeds.
Michael Carrick’s side lost 2-1 at Old Trafford last time out, and while the visitors were already 2-0 up before the red card, his “stupid” sending-off raised frustrations.
The 28-year-old has missed large periods of the season through different injuries and suspensions and there are now concerns about his long-term role.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that the Red Devils could consider Martinez’s future when the summer transfer window opens.
Ahead of what is set to be a busy summer for Man United, they could allow the Argentina international to leave in favour of pursuing a more reliable replacement.

Brown told Football Insider last month that Man United are concerned about Martinez and his fitness issues since returning from a cruciate ligament injury.
The centre-back has missed 16 of a possible 32 Premier League games this season and has been deemed fit to start just 11 games across all competitions so far.

Man United officials including the manager are beleieved to be concerned about his lack of availability, while he is now set to miss three more games through suspension.
“Man United have serious concerns about Martinez,” Brown told Football Insider.
“He’s had a lot of injuries this season, and when he’s not injured, he’s suspended. The red cards and that nasty streak have been a concern for a while.
“And then he had that knee injury, which seems to have caused more complications.
“He’s not available often enough to make a real impact on the team, and when he is available, his performances haven’t been up to standard.
“When Harry Maguire is out of the team, there is a noticeable drop off and that should be alarming for the likes of Martinez, who you would expect to step up.
“They have other priorities in the transfer market, but if these frustrations continue, they could look at bringing in a more reliable option to replace him.”
Who could Man United sign to replace Martinez?
As a result of their concerns about Martinez, Man United have been eyeing a number of options to strengthen at the back in the summer window.
While the position is not expected to be a priority, the likes of Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck and Everton star Jarrad Branthwaite are on their radar.

Brown told Football Insider earlier this month that Man United are unlikely to pursue Branthwaite amid concerns about his injury record and lack of playing time this season.
The Everton star has endured similar issues to Martinez with recurring injuries hampering his progress, but is still believed to be highly rated at Old Trafford.
The Man United recruitment team are currently prioritising the addition of a new midfielder, but with centre-back options on their radar, an overhaul could be on the cards.
