Michael Brown has hailed Man United loan star Dean Henderson for bouncing back at Sheffield United after being roasted by his teammates for his horror show against Aston Villa.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Blades, Tottenham, Leeds and Man City midfielder gave some great insight into the “confident” and “quirky” character manning the goal of Chris Wilder’s high flyers.

The 22-year-old is at Bramall Lane for a second consecutive campaign and has made just as big an impact as he did during their Championship promotion season.

Key to his development was the 3-3 draw at Villa 13 months ago when he made a series of blunders that meant his team letting slip a seemingly unassailable 3-0 lead with 10 minutes to go.

Brown, who is close to senior members of the Sheffield United staff, is in no doubt that United have a massive talent on their hands and claims he has the belief in himself to eventually succeed David De Gea at his parent club.

“He’s made mistakes but he’s recovered very well,” Brown told Football Insider. “I remember they lost at Villa and all the lads killed him, literally: ‘You’re having one, you need to liven up.’

“He did, he stepped up and he’s recovered very well. Every day in training he doesn’t want to lose, he wants to be in and around it, he’s open to the chat about Manchester United and De Gea, he wants to go on.

“Henderson won’t let you steal the limelight, he is confident, he’s very quirky. I first came
across him at an awards dinner in Yorkshire, they’ve just got promoted, the staff came with a couple of players for awards and he was extremely lively, put it that way; bidding at the auction, putting his hands up.”

Henderson’s growing authority comes at a time when De Gea’s form has been under scrutiny at Old Trafford.

The younger man has been a fixture in Wilder’s side during their Championship promotion campaign and again in the Premier League.
