There is no guarantee Manchester United will allow Jesse Lingard to re-sign for West Ham this summer, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England striker insisted Man United will sell to the highest bidder to fund their summer business that could include the signing of Jadon Sancho.
Lingard moved to the London Stadium on loan in the winter window and scored nine goals and provided five assists in 16 Premier League games.
West Ham insider ExWHUEmployee told the West Ham Way podcast that the 28-year-old has made it clear to his Hammers teammates he wants to return next season.
Manager David Moyes told football.london after his side’s final game of the season that he wants the England international to stay at the club.
Lingard was frozen out at Old Trafford before leaving earlier this year and last made started a Premier League game for the club in January 2020.
He has been at the club since the age of seven.
Asked whether Man United may feel a sense of loyalty to the club and allow him to choose his next destination, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: “They might do.
“But Manchester United want new players. They want Sancho.
“They’ll be looking to get as much as they can for players going out to help pay for that.
“I don’t see them doing anyone a favour. I’m sure if West Ham want him they’ll have to pay a good amount of money.
“Just because players have been loyal, clubs aren’t always loyal back. It’s a business at the end of the day and they want to earn money.”
