Man United missed out on 'deal of the window' after £34m reveal - pundit
Paul Robinson is “very surprised” Man United did not “push harder” to beat Chelsea to the signing of Saul Niguez.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Tottenham and England number one said the Blues pulled off “the deal of the window” with the capture of the 26-year-old.
Chelsea confirmed the signing of the midfielder from Atletico Madrid on a loan deal with an option to buy at the end of the season earlier today.
Fabrizio Romano revealed on deadline day the deal would cost Chelsea £4.3million for the loan and a further £34million if they choose to make the deal permanent.
The Italian transfer expert had days earlier (August 24th) revealed Manchester United were also interested in the Spanish centre-midfielder.
When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs if United would live to regret not signing Saul, Robinson said:

“Chelsea have pulled off the deal of the window in Saul Niguez because he is a world-class player.
“I am very surprised that Man United didn’t push harder for him. They could really do with a player like him.
“£34million with a small loan fee to start with? That is the deal of the window by a long way and I think United have missed out.
“Don’t get me wrong, United have had a great window. The signing of Cristiano Ronaldo speaks for itself. Raphael Varane is their best signing in my opinion though. He is an outstanding player who will bring a lot of stability to that back four.”
