Gabby Agbonlahor has urged Man United boss Erik ten Hag to sit down with Antony after his on-pitch outburst against Brighton on Thursday (4 May).

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the 23-year-old "lashed out" against Alexis Mac Allister because of "frustration" over his poor performances.

Antony squandered several opportunities in Man United's back-to-back defeats against Brighton and West Ham in the last week.

The Brazil international also clashed with Seagulls star Alexis Mac Allister and was lucky to avoid a red card after kicking out at the World Cup winner.

He cost Man United a reported £86million last summer (2022) but has scored just four goals in 22 Premier League appearances this term.

Antony, who earns a reported wage of £200,000-a-week at Old Trafford, has added a further four goals in European and cup competitions.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I think he’s a bit of an idiot, to be honest.

“There was no need for that tackle on Mac Allister, and then he’s trying to go chest to chest with a giant in Lewis Dunk. He’d have destroyed him.

“Is Antony frustrated with his own performance, and that’s why he’s lashing out?

“He can’t take a player on, he can’t beat a man, he can’t get a shot on goal. He’s got to be frustrated with his own performances this season.

“Ten Hag has got to speak to him about it. He’s got to calm down or he’ll get red cards.

“He’s got to try and become the £86million player he was brought in to be.”
