Man United news: Ralf Rangnick could be sacked soon after 'massively concerning' report - pundit
Ralf Rangnick could “pay the price” and be sacked soon as rumours emerge about Man United players questioning his training methods, according to Kevin Phillips.
The former Sunderland striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 63-year-old may suffer the same fate as Jose Mourinho – who was sacked in 2018.
According to ESPN (11 February), senior stars are “becoming frustrated” with Rangnick’s coaching methods, with a number of players believing his training sessions are “old-fashioned”.
The report claims that most of the sessions are taken by assistant boss Chris Armas.
Phillips suggested he “wouldn’t be surprised” if Rangnick was relieved of his duties before the end of this season.
“It’s Man United – at the end of the day,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.
“They set standards and have done for years and years now. If you’re not meeting those expectations, then people have paid the price for that in the past.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if Rangnick were to go. We heard about something similar when Mourinho was there with the players questioning the training methods, and that didn’t last long.
“Once we start hearing rumours and that sort of thing, it’s a massive concern. And you can see that coming through on the pitch with the performances and body language of the players.
“It’s a concern and I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t see the season out and was soon sacked.”
Man United were pegged back after taking the lead for the third successive game after their home draw against Southampton on Saturday (12 February).
Rangnick is contracted until the end of the season – at which point he is set to take up a consultancy role at the club.
