Celtic and West Ham legend Frank McAvennie joined the Football Insider stable in June 2020 and has not disappointed with his own brand of unique punditry. He loves talking football almost as much as he loved scoring goals, and still has close links in the dressing room at Parkhead.

Whoever takes the Man United job in the summer needs to rediscover the club's fear factor.

That's according to former West Ham hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after an update in the club's hunt for a new manager.

Man United were dumped out of the Champions League on Tuesday (15 March) and this followed a 4-1 hammering against Man City on 6 March.

McAvennie claims other sides aren't scared of Man United and insists this is the first problem any new manager needs to fix.

"When we used to go and play Man United, it was a battle," McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

"You had to work so hard to get anything off them, it was a struggle.

"Teams aren't afraid of them now, that's the problem. Teams just turn up and beat them.

"For a team like that, that's just ridiculous, that's the biggest problem. No one is scared of them.

"The players don't intimidate you. That's why the whole club needs a rebuild.

"Top to bottom, The people who are there now don't get it, clearly. That is the biggest thing, for me.

"Like I say, it's just ridiculous that it has come to this. Whoever takes that job, Tuchel, Conte, Pochettino, whoever it is, they have such a big job on their hands but a manager like that could do it."

Chelsea

The Red Devils are next in action against Leicester on 2 April.

They currently sit fifth in the Premier League.
