Man United slammed by pundit after journalist's behind-the-scenes update - 'it's been poor for a long time'

Paul Robinson has claimed only winning football matches will solve Man United player’s problems off the field.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and England number one suggested a review of the club’s player care structure will not have a big impact on performances.

According to The Athletic‘s David Ornstein (2 May), the Reds Devils have enlisted the help of ex-West Ham and Southampton player care specialist Hugo Scheckter to perform a full audit on the club’s first-team pastoral care.

It comes as the club look to review it’s practices ahead of the arrival of new manager Erik ten Hag from Ajax.

Man United’s dismal season reached a new low on Saturday after a 4-0 thrashing by Brighton at the Amex Stadium.

When asked by Football Insider if changes to pastoral were needed at Old Trafford, Robinson said: “It is hard to comment without knowing the ins and outs of the current system.

“Confidence comes from playing well on the field. The way a team is man-managed is also vital to that and that is down to the manager and his coaching staff.

“The performances have been poor for a long time and that will be the main cause of the player’s lack of confidence.

“I’m not so sure that a review of the player care structure will make a huge difference. They need a manager to galvanise that dressing room and get them winning again because that is what breeds confidence.”
