Man United tipped to offload Pogba in January after £100m Romano reveal - pundit

Man United “will go all out” to sign West Ham talisman Declan Rice next summer.

That is the view of 2000 European Golden Shoe winner Kevin Phillips, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the “big problem” in midfield for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

Scott McTominay, Fred, Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic have come under criticism for their performances in holding midfield this season.

The Red Devils opted against signing a defensive midfielder in the summer, despite widespread calls from the fans.

Speaking on his Here We Go podcast (20th October), Fabrizio Romano revealed United, Man City and Chelsea are all racing to sign Declan Rice.

Rice, who was valued at £100million last summer, is under contract at the London Stadium until the summer of 2024.

Phillips claimed Man United could offload Pogba in January to part-fund a move for Rice.

“The midfield area, this is a big problem,” he told Football Insider. “They need to look at it.

“The two names that immediately spring to mind are, dare I say it, Kalvin Phillips and Declan Rice.

“Rice is a top-class player. I think Man U will probably be looking at him with regret.

“Let’s be honest, they should have invested the Sancho money in Rice.

“Will Paul Pogba be there next season? If they can sell him in January to free up some cash, they might just do it.

“I think they will go out out for Rice in the summer.”
