Man United plan to back Erik ten Hag with a summer budget of £140million, sources have told Football Insider.

The Red Devils have decided to keep the Dutchman as manager after his FA Cup success last month.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS team held a club-wide performance review after taking sporting control at Old Trafford in January.

After coming to the conclusion that Ten Hag will stay as manager, United are now ready to provide him with a £140million war chest to rebuild his squad.

That budget is set to fluctuate based on player sales with United in the process of offloading Jadon Sancho, Mason Greenwood and Casemiro over the summer window among others.

Man United ready to spend £140m this summer after Ten Hag decision

United are understood to be partially limited by Profit and Sustainability Rules with top-flight clubs only allowed to lose £105million over a rolling three-year period.

But sources have told Football Insider that significant cost-cutting since Ratcliffe’s takeover - including a huge reduction to the wage bill - has given the club much more flexibility over the summer window, especially beyond June 30th.

While United are expected to have a sizeable budget this summer, Ten Hag’s involvement in transfer business has been limited significantly, according to the Daily Mail.

The report suggests that Ten Hag will continue have an input in recruitment but the majority of the process will be handled by United’s much-changed hierarchy.
