Man United told to make U-turn after newspaper's Ralf Rangnick update - pundit

Man United should change their minds on handing Ralf Rangnick a consultancy role and undertake a “complete clear-out” behind the scenes, according to Paul Robinson.

The former England goalkeeper, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the Old Trafford set-up is a “mess from top to bottom” at present.

Rangnick, 63, is set to take a consultancy role at Man United when his time as interim manager expires at the end of the season.

However, the Daily Mail (5 April) report that the German’s workload will be diluted in the role – with the former RB Leipzig boss set to work just six days a month in the new position.

The report claims Rangnick has not been consulted as the Red Devils continue the search for a new manager.

Robinson insisted any new boss should “surround himself with his own people” behind the scenes.

“It’s a mess from top to bottom at Man United,” he told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs.

“Rangnick’s appointment hasn’t worked. There’s been no change since Solskjaer left.

“The player’s attitudes and their performances are completely unchanged. The uncertainty of who is going to be in charge next season is taking over.

“Rangnick was supposed to go upstairs as a sporting director, but it’s now come out that he’ll be working six days a month.

“I just think they need a manager to come in and surround himself with his own people, people he trusts.

“If they are going to go down the sporting director route, it has to be someone the manager knows.

“It just needs a complete clear-out from top to bottom. Rangnick can’t be in control of who comes in.”
