Man United told to sign 'world-class' midfielder after Pogba exit update - pundit

Man United should cut their losses with Paul Pogba and use the money saved from his contract renewal to sign a “world-class” midfielder, according to Kevin Phillips.

The 2000 European Golden Shoe winner, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed “it is best for all parties” that the 28-year-old leaves the club this year.

Pogba has entered the final six months of his contract at Old Trafford.

According to the Daily Star (18 January), the France international has told the club he wants to join Real Madrid in the summer.

The La Liga giants are free to agree a pre-contract with the centre-midfielder given his current contract situation.

When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Pogba’s future, Phillips said: “Let’s be honest, his time at Man United been disappointing.

“In spells he has been phenomenal but most of the time he has flattered to deceive.

“He’s not been good enough when you factor in how much money United spent on him. It was a huge sum of money at the time. I’ve been so disappointed because I expected far, far more from the player.

“I think it’s best for all parties that he moves on. He’s on very hefty wages as well so United could use that money to bring in a world-class replacement.”

Pogba has made 13 appearances across all competitions this season.

He has out of first-team action since October because of suspension and a hamstring injury.
