Sources: Giants open talks to sign Van de Beek from Man United as 1 January deal on the cards

Juventus have opened preliminary talks over a potential deal for Man United midfielder Donny van de Beek, Football Insider understands.

The Italian giants have made a move for the Holland international, 24, ahead of the January window.

A recruitment source has told Football Insider that Juventus are keen on signing Van de Beek on loan for the second half of the season.

They are keen to tie up a deal before the January window opens in order for the Dutchman to sign as early as possible.

One point of discussion will be a potential option to buy in the deal.

Ole-Gunnar Solskjaer has repeatedly stressed that Van de Beek is part of United’s long-term plans.

But the versatile midfielder has been a bit-part figure since his £36million arrival in the summer of 2020 and is way down the pecking order in the new campaign.

United will not make a decision in October on where Van de Beek will be for the second half of the season but the player and his representatives are set to push hard for a move.

The Dutchman is desperate to get regular first-team football and reignite a career that has stuttered badly over the last 15 months.

He made just four Premier League starts in 1,456 minutes of action in his debut campaign and there has been little change in the new season.

Van de Beek has not started a Premier League or Champions League match, and has been used as a substitute in just two of those nine fixtures.

His only start has come in the EFL Cup in a second-string line-up against West Ham, which resulted in a 1-0 defeat.
