Adam Wharton to Man City odds slashed
Man City have seen their odds to sign Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton slashed by a top bookmaker as his future hangs in the balance.
Wharton is still a Crystal Palace player with just over two weeks left of the summer transfer window.
Many Eagles fans may not have expected such an outcome following the end of the season, but he remains firmly in their plans for the new campaign.
City are among the clubs to hold a long-term interest in Wharton, and there is a feeling that his plans for the future could take another twist in the coming weeks.
They are actively seeking to bolster Enzo Maresca's midfield as Rodri completes a move to Barcelona, with the Palace star a top target as it stands.
Their chances of signing Wharton have seemingly improved over the last 24 hours after their odds to do so were cut by a top UK bookmaker.
Man City now 4/1 to sign Adam Wharton as transfer race intensifies
Wharton has proven his worth as one of the Premier League's best holding midfielders at Palace over the last three seasons since joining from Blackburn.
He was key to their Conference League success last term, and registered seven assists and one goal in 53 games across all competitions.
City have long been interested in his signature, and could well accelerate a move now that Rodri is on his way out.
Sources have revealed to Football Insider that Chelsea are "confident" of signing Wharton this summer, and they are the bookies favourites to do so at odds of 5/2.
Liverpool are next up at 7/2, while City's odds to sign Wharton have now been slashed to 4/1.
Pep Guardiola has told Man City why they should sign Wharton
The Citizens may well be set to choose between Wharton and Ayyoub Bouaddi to bolster their midfield in the coming weeks.
It is pretty clear which of the pair former boss Guardiola would have told the board to sign this summer if he were still at the helm.
Back in April last year, the then-City manager spoke highly of Wharton and his progress at Palace, saying: "An excellent holding midfielder. He was in the national team already. The impact has been really good, coming from the Championship to the Premier League, brilliant left foot, a really good player."
The 22-year-old went on to shine as Palace beat his City side in the FA Cup final a month later, and he may well be pulling on a sky blue shirt soon.
