Antoine Semenyo: The games Man City star could miss after confirmed news
Antoine Semenyo has fortunately avoided a potential injury to his ACL but is expected to miss up to eight weeks of action for Manchester City.
The 26-year-old came off the bench as the Citizens beat Ipswich Town 3-2 on Saturday but was seen limping off the pitch after the game.
Sources say he will be out for up to two months, a serious blow to City but the good news for the club is that he will not miss a year with a far more grevious anterior cruciate ligament injury to his knee.
The Ghana international's absence will be a significant blow for Enzo Maresca, who has only just seen Jeremy Doku return back and fit for selection.
Semenyo has scored two goals and provided three assists in the Premier League so far this season, and will miss a number of key games.
Phil Foden scored on Saturday and it is hoped that he has finally returned to form, while Iliman Ndiaye's summer arrival was completed with such situations in mind.
Erling Haaland also limped off against Ipswich Town, but Maresca has since provided hope that the striker has avoided any serious injury.
What games will Antoine Semenyo miss?
Should Semenyo be missing for the two months, he could return for the Boxing Day trip to Newcastle United.
In that time, he will miss a number of crunch games in both the Premier League and the Champions League.
An away trip to Aston Villa next week represents a difficult proposition for the Citizens, who lost there last season.
Back-to-back clashes against Brighton will follow in the Carabao Cup and the Premier League, with Maresca to be without Semenyo against arguably the most exciting side in English football right now,
Man City face a trip to Premier League champions Arsenal at the end of November, in what will undoubtedly be a key game for the title race.
Trips to Brentford and Barcelona bring their own troubles too at the start of December, with Semenyo's absence sure to be felt.
What Enzo Maresca said about Semenyo
Semenyo joined Man City in January from Bournemouth and has proven to be worth every penny of the £64million price tag.
The winger scored 11 goals and provided three assists in just 27 appearances after arriving last season, and looks bound to enjoy another fantastic campaign.
Semenyo will need to recover from injury first, however, and will hope that his season is not stunted on a longer term.
"Hopefully they are good, but they are big players for us," Maresca said when asked about the condition of the winger and Haaland on Saturday.
"Same for any team losing their best two players. It's difficult for everyone but we'll see what's happened and hopefully find a solution."
