Cody Gakpo to Man City update after big-money deal agreed

Man City are pushing to agree a deal to sign Cody Gakpo as they look to replace the outgoing Savio and Omar Marmoush, sources have told Football Insider.

Enzo Maresca is reshaping Man City's forward line in the final stages of the window as the focus shifts from bolstering his midfield ranks.

Savio and Omar Marmoush have each joined Spurs in the last few days, with the former moving permanently for an initial £75million and the latter on loan for the season with an obligation to buy.

Liverpool forward Gakpo has emerged as a surprise target for the Citizens as Maresca chases a Premier League-ready attacker to join his squad.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, City have made the Dutchman their priority signing for the remainder of the window.

Gakpo is still a valued member of Andoni Iraola's squad and his signature will come at a premium with four years still to run on his Reds contract.

Gakpo came in for some criticism at Liverpool last season, but still registered nine goals and six assists in 52 appearances and impressed at the World Cup for the Netherlands.

He is set for regular game time under Iraola, but would also likely arrive at City as Maresca's main left winger after their earlier sales.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "It's a surprise that City are actively considering a move for Cody Gakpo. We know that City are going to be in the market for attacking reinforcements having allowed Savio and Omar Marmoush to go to Tottenham, as they are a bit short in those attacking areas.

"Gakpo obviously has been a long-term target for Tottenham in the summer transfer window as well. They've been the one that have shown the most concrete interest in the Dutchman."

Liverpool end pursuit of Yankuba Minteh after two rejected bids

Liverpool have been exploring moves for new wingers throughout the summer after Mo Salah's exit and amid uncertainty around Gakpo's future.

They have seen two bids to sign Brighton star Minteh rejected in the last week, with the latter worth around £60m.

Sources have now revealed to Football Insider that Liverpool have moved on from signing Minteh as they are not willing to meet the Seagulls' lofty demands.

Crystal Palace forward Ismaila Sarr is now believed to be a top target for the Reds in the last few days of the window.
