Everton face missing out on Nathan Ake after Fenerbahce development

Everton could miss out on signing Manchester City defender Nathan Ake this summer.

Fenerbahce's presidential candidate Aziz Yildirim is targeting a move for Ake if elected, with talks with his representatives having already taken place.

The 31-year-old only has a year left remaining on his Man City contract, and is expected to be allowed to leave the Etihad.

Everton are searching for defensive reinforcements, with manager David Moyes keen to strengthen his squad ahead of another push for European football next season.

The Toffees are already in a strong position to sign Ake's Man City teammate Jack Grealish following his positive loan spell at Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Sources revealed to Football Insider that Everton were interested in signing Ake as the Dutchman seeks greater playing time.

Moyes wants to add depth to his squad, and Ake's versatility to play at either centre-back or at full-back is a bonus.

Everton will back Moyes in the market, but whilst the club's financial position has improved under the ownership of the Friedkin Group, profit and sustainability rules may still prove to be a factor.

Ake's wages of £165,000 a week could prove to be a stumbling block, especially if Moyes has the desire to make multiple big signings this summer.

Everton were said to be interested in securing John Stones' return to the club upon the expiry of his contract at Man City, but there has been no update on the 32-year-old's future since he left the Etihad.

Arsenal defender Ben White could also be pursued by the Toffees, if his game time can not be guaranteed at Emirates Stadium.

Moyes looks like he will have to scout the market for more defensive options, and a new right-back will be required following Seamus Coleman's departure.

Everton's priority right now could be agreeing a deal to sign Middlesborough midfielder Hayden Hackney, with the 23-year-old a top target.

The two clubs are believed to be in talks over a transfer, with Hackney in the final 12 months of his current deal at the Riverside.
