Ex-Manchester City talent Felix Nmecha 'attracts Premier League clubs' with Etihad return now unlikely
Felix Nmecha is unlieky to return to Manchester City this summer as they continue to push to sign Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest.
While the addition of midfield reinforcements ranks highly on the list of priorities at the Etihad, the 25-year-old is not seen as a leading target.
The midfielder, whose brother Lukas plays for Leeds United, came through the academy at Man City before leaving the club to return to his native Germany in 2021.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that City have been keeping tabs on Nmecha since his exit, but are not expected to make a move.
Instead, he has been tipped to join another Premier League club after his impressive performance in Germany's opening World Cup win against Curacao.
A number of Premier League clubs are looking to sign a new midfielder this summer, and are believed to have scouts at the World Cup keeping tabs on standout stars.
Could Man City make a move to re-sign Felix Nmecha?
Football Insider revealed in March that Man City are considering re-signing Nmecha after being impressed by his performances for Borussia Dortmund.
However, Anderson has emerged as their leading midfield target, despite having seen a £120million bid rejected by Nottingham Forest earlier this month.
City are not planning to add more than one midfielder to what is an already well-stocked squad, meaning they could now move on from their interest in Nmecha.
"I remember watching Nmecha during his time in Man City's academy," Brown told Football Insider.
"He was always a very talented player and was highly regarded at Man City, but he wanted to go back to Germany and that's where he was given the chance to play regularly.
"He's obviously impressed since that move, and now at Borussia Dortmund, and City will be well aware of that because they've been keeping tabs on him.
"But I would be very surprised if they made a move for him now, because Elliot Anderson is the one midfielder they really want.
"That's not to say another Premier League club won't be interested, though, because these clubs will have scouts keeping an eye on the World Cup.
"His performance for Germany will certainly have attracted a lot of suitors, and if they've done their proper due dilligence, Nmecha may well be a target for somebody."
Which Premier League club could sign Nmecha?
Despite Man City seemingly cooling their interest in the academy graduate, there are a number of Premier League clubs who could do with a new midfielder this summer.
The likes of Newcastle United and Aston Villa have both been linked with mutliple targets, but would be considered a tier below Man City.
Liverpool are also on the lookout for a new midfielder, having been linked with moves for top players including Crystal Palace star Adam Wharton in recent weeks.
Meanwhile, Football Insider revealed in April that Man United are prioritising the addition of a new midfielder ahead of the summer transfer window.
A move for a player who used to represent their rivals would come as a surprise to many, but Michael Carrick is determined to improve his options this summer.
