Ex-scout shares what he's noticed about Enzo Fernandez at Man City - 'all of a sudden...'

Enzo Fernandez looks to be enjoying his football again after completing his £125million switch from Chelsea to Manchester City.

That is the opinion of experienced former Everton, Tottenham and Aston Villa scout, Bryan King, speaking exclusively to Football Insider.

The 25-year-old made the move on transfer deadline day after pushing for it throughout the summer, with the Citizens finally finding an agreement in the final hours of the window.

Fernandez was keen to link up with his former manager Enzo Maresca, who has guided his Man City team to seven consecutive wins across all competitions to start the season.

The Argentina international scored 16 goals and provided 10 assists across all competitions for Chelsea last season, and enjoyed a strong World Cup.

The Blues had attempted to sign Lamine Camara to replace him, but were left short after Monaco pulled out of the agreement in the final minutes of the window.

Enzo Fernandez 'looked mystified' at Chelsea

Fernandez joined Chelsea from Benfica in a £107m deal in 2023, and has established himself among the best midfielders in the world in recent seasons.

The Argentina now accompanies Elliot Anderson in a Man City midfield pivot made up nearly £250m worth of player.

"Look at his path to where he is now. Started at River Plate, went to Benfica, went to Chelsea, now he's at Man City," King told Football Insider.

"He's settled in quickly - A - because he's a good player. And - B - because he's got good players around him, which make it easier.

"Here's a player who all of a sudden looks like he's enjoying his football. Whereas at Chelsea, he looked a bit mystified about where he should be playing or what he should be doing.

"Footballers like a pat on the back. They like to play games, and he is a good player. I mean, he's made nearly 50 times for Argentina, so he's no dud."

Fernandez confidence on full show

The confidence Fernandez has at Man City was on full show as he scored his first goal for the club against Sunderland on Sunday.

The midfielder stood over a free-kick at the edge of the box and looked set to cross it into the box, where several teammates waited.

Yet, ingeniously, the Argentine spotted Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roefs standing slightly too far to his right, and instead curled the ball around the wall and into the net via the goalkeeper's near post.

It was a moment worth every penny for Fernandez, and for Maresca, hopefully a sign of more to come.
