'I don't see how' Rodri becomes the second of two Man City star men to leave
Man City are unlikely to let Rodri leave the club this summer after Bernardo Silva's departure at the end of his contract.
Rodri is approaching the final year of his Man City contract, but is yet to pen fresh terms despite reports stating that talks have been held in recent months.
He struggled for form and fitness throughout last season, and has been eyed by Real Madrid after admitting that he would not turn down a move to the Bernabeu.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Rodri is looking increasingly likely to stay at the Etihad Stadium this summer.
That is because their board does not want to let two experienced midfield stars leave following Silva's departure at the end of his contract.
Madrid have moved to sign Silva after he left the Citizens, but will find it tough to reunite him with his former teammate this summer.
Man City backed to keep Rodri as other midfielders deemed more likely to leave
Rodri only managed to make 17 league starts last season, with fitness still proving to be an issue as he recovered from a long-term hamstring injury.
He is still set to be a key part of prospective new boss Enzo Maresca's squad, with the likes of Tijjani Reijnders and Mateo Kovacic seeming more likely to move on.
“At one stage, I thought there's no way City take Elliot Anderson with what they've got. The Dutch lad (Tijjani Reijnders) and Kovacic, there's two players that you tend to forget about, " Brown exclusively told Football Insider.
"Cherki is another one. Then, all of a sudden, Bernardo Silva has left. I don’t see how Rodri can leave, too. They can't lose their two best midfielders in the same window. That would be a mistake.”
Which clubs could Reijnders and Kovacic join?
Reijnders enjoyed a stellar start to life at City last summer, but fell out of favour with Pep Guardiola and started just two of their final 15 league games of the campaign.
He has been widely linked with an exit this summer, with sources telling Football Insider that Juventus are interested in Reijnders, and several other Serie A clubs could also make a move for his services.
Kovacic, meanwhile, saw most of his 2025-26 campaign disrupted by injury as he featured just nine times in a City shirt.
The 32-year-old is also heading into the last year of his current contract, with AC Milan and Aston Villa both believed to have him on their radars.
