Rodri has been heavily praised by the Spanish media for his immense contribution in their 2-0 victory over France in the World Cup semi-finals.

The Manchester City star was one of the key players for the European champions as they overcame a lacklustre French side with ease.

France were expected to overcome the Iberian nation, and were the favourites to win the tournament before the game. However, goals from Mikel Oyarzabal and Pedro Porro sent them home.

As a result, the Spanish media have hailed Rodri, insisting that he was “all over the pitch” as the nation reached the World Cup final.

The 30-year-old has had an excellent tournament so far, and has been a key reason as to why they have only conceded once throughout the entire competition.

Rodri came into the World Cup on the back of a difficult season at Man City that was plagued by injuries.

Rodri rated as one of Spain’s best players against France

Given how good France’s attack had been in the World Cup, Spain and Rodri had to be at their best to contain them.

This was something they achieved with ease, with the midfielder even having time to venture forward as the game went on.

With the Spanish now just one game away from lifting their second-ever World Cup, Eldesmarque took the moment to praise the Man City star.

The outlet rated the midfielder at an 8.5, the second highest on the team behind Porro, before writing: “Spain plays the way Rodri wants. He was all over the pitch and even helped out defensively.”

How good was Rodri vs France?

According to Fotmob on 14 July, Rodri was simply fantastic against the French on Tuesday.

Overall, he completed 87 per cent of his passes, made four tackles, completed two clearances, won seven duels and won all four of his aerial duels.

This proved to be vital at keeping France at bay as they searched for a way through Spain’s stubborn backline to no avail.

As a result, Spain have now set up a tie against either England or Argentina in the World Cup final, which is set to take place on Sunday.

It remains to be seen if Spain or Rodri can repeat this type of display as they look to lift the trophy.
