Vincent Kompany is expected to be among the favourites to take over from Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

The Bayern Munich boss played for the Citizens for over a decade, winning the Premier League four times and leaving among the best players to have ever graced the Etihad Stadium.

Since retiring, the Belgian has earned his stripes as a manager, first at Anderlecht, before enjoying roles with Burnley and now Bayern.

In Germany, Kompany is on course to win the Bundesliga for a second consecutive season, while his team remain a favourite for the Champions League.

The next Man City manager will be tasked with replacing a legend in Guardiola, with this summer set to mark a decade since he was appointed.

Vincent Kompany in Man City running

Football Insider exclusively revealed in March that Kompany is Man City's top choice to replace Guardiola this summer.

The Spaniard will presumably be involved in the selection of his replacement, and can have few complaints with his former player.

It would be difficult for anybody to describe the Bayern job as one of great difficulty, but the German giants have undoubtedly felt Kompany's impact.

When he arrived, their run of 11 consecutive league titles had just ended after Bayer Leverkusen stunned everyone by doing it unbeaten.

Kompany instantly got them back on track, returning the title last season and registering a points tally not beaten by a Bayern manager since 2018.

Die Roten are on course to go even better this season, with a further 21 points available for the Bundesliga leaders, who currently have 70.

One major bookmaker has shortened Kompany's odds of taking over at Man City to 4/1 in recent days, while Enzo Maresca still leads the race at 4/6.

Pep Guardiola decision date set

There has been mounting speculation for months now that Guardiola is set to make this season his last in the Premier League.

The Spaniard has won everything that there is to win in England, and will leave a sizable legacy.

The Telegraph has reported that the decision is not yet made, however. Guardiola will see out the season and analyse where Man City are under him before making a final decision.

The 55-year-old's team remain in contention for both the Premier League and the FA Cup, and won the Carabao Cup last month.

One year remains on the last contract extension he signed, and Guardiola could still decide to see it out.
