Premier League giants have 'one big issue' as Man City's 'taps turned off'
Premier League and European giants will feel the negative effects of pushing for Manchester City to be slapped with a "severe" sanction.
That is according to former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that clubs all around the world have "benefitted greatly" from the 10-time Premier League winners.
An investigation found that the Citizens inflated their accounts by £900million, with roughly £1.2billion spent on transfers between 2009 and 2018.
During that time, Wolfsburg, Monaco and Arsenal received the most money for transfer fees, including deals for Kevin De Bruyne, Edin Dzeko, Bernardo Silva and Samir Nasri.
Several other clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur, Everton, Barcelona and Real Madrid, all saw an inflow of cash coming straight from the Etihad Stadium.
Of course, many of those same clubs are now lobbying for Man City to be hit with a major points deduction, transfer bans, or even relegation to League Two.
Premier League and European giants have 'benefitted greatly' from Man City's spending
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson explained that the "one big issue" facing these clubs is that any punishment will stop an eye-watering amount of money coming into the game.
"There is one big issue that all these teams have got, Premier League as well as European clubs, in lobbying for a very severe punishment," he said.
"And that's them being taken out of the market effectively. One of the big issues is where the money's been going. If you look at, where did the £900m, where did it go?
"Just go and have a look at where City spent the money, right? That money went across Europe, it went to Arsenal, it went to Liverpool, Germany, to teams in France.
"City's money has filtered through the entire game over the last decade. Now, whatever happens here, the likelihood is that, if City lose their appeal, the taps will be turned off.
"That's just one of the consequences here. The other clubs are not going to say it in these terms, but they've benefited greatly cash-wise from the investment that's been made."
Clubs across Europe ready to pounce on Man City demise
The threat of a transfer ban is looming over, but the Etihad Stadium is still home to some of the footballing world's biggest and brightest.
Football Insider understands that Arsenal and Real Madrid have already made contact with Erling Haaland, while Mick Brown believes Marc Guehi could finally join Liverpool.
Rayan Cherki, Elliot Anderson, Enzo Fernandez and Gianluigi Donnarumma would have no shortage of potential suitors, nor would boyhood fan Phil Foden.
All of these players could be available at extremely cheap prices, which would be an added bonus of getting Man City off the market, but only in the short term.
