Rayan Cherki has reacted after Phil Foden signed a new Manchester City contract which will tie him down until 2030.

The 26-year-old had just one year remaining on his previous deal and rumours of a potential exit had started to bubble amid Pep Guardiola's departure.

However, the Man City academy boy has decided to stay and be a part of Enzo Maresca's new project, with his stay now expected to exceed 20 years.

Foden made 50 appearances across all competitions last season, scoring 10 goals and providing seven assists.

The reality was that it was a difficult campaign for the midfielder, however, with just three of those goal contributions coming in 2026.

The previous two campaigns have seen Foden struggle to reach the heights of the 2023-24 season, with Maresca hoping to reignite him.

The 2023-24 season was undoubtedly the pinnacle of Foden's young career so far.

The midfielder netted an unbelievable 27 goals across all competitions and provided 12 assists, almost single-handedly driving Man City to the Premier League title amid the pressure of Arsenal.

That campaign marked Foden's sixth Premier League title and his first ever PFA player of the year award, seemingly setting him up to go even better next season.

But in both seasons since, the midfielder has struggled to get going. Interestingly, January 2025 saw him go on a four-game Premier League run of producing seven goal contributions, before failing to register another all season.

Last season saw him do the exact same thing - four Premier League games in December, seven goal contributions and just three for the remainder of the season.

Maresca will hope that he can take that form and find a way of extending it further than just four games.

"So happy I’ve signed a contract extension with my club. Determined to achieve even more together," Foden wrote after news of his new deal emerged.

Cherki, who took many of the 26-year-old's minutes in the team last season, simply replied with the word "crazy".
