Manchester City are one of multiple clubs to have considered a move for Real Madrid star Rodrygo in recent months.

Rodrygo emerged as a target for Man City over the summer as they scoured the market for a potential replacement for Savinho, who came close to joining Tottenham

However, Savinho signed a new contract with Pep Guardiola’s side, putting the rumours to bed over his potential move to north London.

Football Insider revealed on 13 November Tottenham remain interested in signing Rodrygo, with the winger believed to be “unhappy” at Real Madrid

Spurs are expected to face competition for the Brazil international due to his undoubted quality.

Real Madrid's likely demands revealed after Rodrygo latest

Former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Guardiola’s side are only likely to pursue a deal for Rodrygo if Savinho were to join Tottenham.

Savinho has been criticised by Man City fans for his performances this season, having registered one goal and two assists in 14 appearances.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Rodrygo’s situation, Borson said: “There are not many places you can go when we look at these sorts of players, almost regardless of what the deal is, because they're not going to give him away.

“They're not going to say, ‘Yeah, just go and pay no loan fee, and we’ll pay his wages as well to go and play in the Premier League’.

“They're not going to subsidise a Premier League club like that, so they're going to want something like let's say 50 per cent of his wages minimum between now and the end of the season. Even that's a lot of money, so he won't go anywhere either.”

Rodrygo has started in just four of his 14 appearances for Real Madrid this season, while he’s failed to add any goals to his two assists.

Rodrgyo's likely Real Madrid exit date revealed

Borson insisted any deal for Rodrygo is likely to take place next summer due to the financials involved.

“He's going to want to go to a top-six side,” said Borson.

“There's a tiny sample size, plus Saudi. It’s very hard to get a market going from that. I don't think any of it's a foregone conclusion.

“Maybe City would have been interested, but probably not now, unless Savinho was sold say in January to Spurs, as was touted in the summer. But I think that's unlikely, so I think it’s probably most likely to be a deal that's done at the end of the season.”

Rodrygo has registered 68 goals and 53 assists in 284 appearances since joining Real Madrid from Santos in 2019.
