Scout who discovered Erling Haaland reveals how much it will cost to prise him from Man City
Manchester City's star striker Erling Haaland will cost his next team over £250million if he is to ever leave the Etihad Stadium.
That is the opinion of legendary Scandinavian scout Bryan King, who discovered Haaland in 2016, and exclusively spoke to Football Insider.
While working for Everton, King recommended that the young Norwegian have a trial and be signed, but the option was passed up and he went to Molde instead.
That decision is undoubtedly one that hurts at Hill Dickinson Stadium, with Haaland now representing arguably the greatest goal-scoring force in world football.
The 25-year-old featured in just his third-ever World Cup game for Norway on Tuesday, scoring his fifth goal of the tournament as his team beat Ivory Coast 2-1 to reach the round of 16.
Haaland, who scored 38 goals across all competitions for Man City this season, is under contract at the Etihad Stadium until 2034.
Bryan King makes comparison amid Elliot Anderson fee
The contract Haaland signed in January 2025 was among the most lucrative in football history.
The deal will last until 2034 and removed any potential exit clauses from his last one, with the striker expected to earn upwards of £400,000 per week.
There has always been slight murmurs of a future move to Real Madrid for the 25-year-old, but the new contract has put all the power in Man City's hands for the majority of his career.
There is no indication yet whether Haaland would want to leave in the future, but any team would undoubtedly have to break the transfer record.
Asked about Elliot Anderson's £116m move to Man City, which is set to be confirmed in the coming days, King told Football Insider: "Decent player he is, but he ain't a £116m player.
"You saw the reaction last year when Alexander Isak moved. I mean, 125 million, you want somebody firing them in straight away, don't you? And for a central midfield player, awful lot of money.
"I'd hate to think how much Erling Haaland's going to cost if ever he moves. He wouldn't go for less than £250m. That's football as it is at the moment."
What has Haaland said on Man City future?
Incredibly, Real Madrid presidential candidate Enrique Riquelme claimed that he would sign Haaland if he beat Florentino Perez in the race for the position.
A sensational moment saw the candidate hold up a Real Madrid shirt with the striker's name on the back, claiming that he wants the move and has a release clause.
That assertion was denied by Man City and Haaland's camp, and Riquelme lost the election anyway.
"I'm super happy and I'm looking forward to what's next because I think it's exciting times for City as a club and also me as a player," the Norway international said in April. "I'm looking forward to continuing with City."
